Shaheen Afridi wasn’t at his best with the ball against Worcestershire, who posted a mammoth total of 226/5 against Nottinghamshire on Friday in the T20 Vitality Blast.
In his four-over spell, Afridi conceded 45 runs, resulting in an economy rate of 11.25. He managed to claim only one wicket, that of Kashif Ali, who was caught by Steven Mullaney after scoring just 11 runs.
Nottinghamshire’s chase was anchored by Alex Hales, who fought valiantly with a well-made 71-run knock. Unfortunately, Hales lacked substantial support from his teammates, and as a result, he departed in the 14th over when Nottinghamshire still required 101 runs to win in the remaining six overs.
Despite his struggles with the ball, Afridi injected life back into the game during Nottinghamshire’s innings. In the 16th over, bowled by Michael Bracewell, Afridi unleashed a display of power-hitting, smashing four sixes.

Afridi’s contribution with the bat was a brief yet impactful cameo of 29 runs from just 11 balls, including four sixes and a four. However, his dismissal at the hands of Pat Brown spelled the end for Nottinghamshire. With Afridi’s departure, their hopes diminished, and they were ultimately bowled out for 170, falling short of Worcestershire’s mammoth total.
