Xavi is frustrated with the Champions League anthem and believes Barcelona should still be in the competition

Former Barcelona player and current coach of the Qatari team Al-Sadd, Xavi Hernandez, has expressed his frustration with the Champions League anthem, stating that it makes him “angry”. Despite Barcelona’s recent struggles in the competition, Xavi is still convinced that the Blaugrana should be competing in Europe’s premier competition. Barcelona’s latest exit from the Champions League came after they finished third behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in Group C with just seven points from six matches. As a result, they will now have to face Manchester United in the Europa League knockout play-off tie. However, Xavi believes that Barcelona should always be participating in the latter stages of the Champions League, stating that “for history and greatness, we should be there”. He acknowledged that it is now time to face reality and focus on the Europa League, which he sees as a good test to see if they can compete in Europe again after a few seasons without success. Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League, Xavi remains excited about the prospect of competing in the Europa League and is determined to help Barcelona make a strong run in the competition.

In the context of Manchester United’s recent performances, Xavi Hernandez was asked whether he believes that the club is good enough to compete in the Champions League instead of the Europa League. The Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing sixth in the Premier League in the 2021-22 season. Xavi responded by stating that “neither one nor the other have won the right to be in the Champions League, so it is unfair to say this.” While Xavi acknowledges that both Manchester United and Barcelona have recently failed to qualify for the Champions League, he maintains that it is not a reflection of the quality of the clubs. He also had words of praise for Manchester United, stating that “it is a very strong Manchester, and it was about time we see a Manchester like that.” Despite not competing in the Champions League this season, Manchester United remains a formidable force in European football and will look to make a strong run in the Europa League.
