Waqar hits back after Ganguly’s ‘India won one-sided’ jibe at Pakistan

Former Pakistan captain, Waqar Younis, following the unveiling ceremony of the 2023 Asia Cup schedule on Wednesday in Lahore, was asked to comment on Sourav Ganguly’s remark that India-Pakistan matches have not been competitive in recent years because India has been winning one-sidedly.

“There is a lot of hype in this match but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai,” Ganguly had said a week ago.

Waqar refrained from commenting on Ganguly’s remarks specifically and instead focused on the competitive history between India and Pakistan.

“I don’t want to comment on that,” Waqar replied after the reporter mentioned Ganguly’s aforementioned statement.

“I feel we have had good games. The match that Pakistan won was pretty one-sided (in 2021 T20 WC). But the ones we lost were pretty close as well. So, you can say anything you want, the matches between India and Pakistan are the biggest in the world. When the scale of the game is that big, no one’s comments really matter,” Waqar added.

The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match at the 2023 World Cup is scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring affair with India achieving a huge victory in Manchester.
